Notes: I am trying to trace the ancestors of Charles Fortnum who lived in Oxfordshire during the 1700s. Potentially he is my 5xGGF and I would like to be able to answer the question: Are you related to Fortnum and Mason? I have done some research into William Fortnum, who founded the business during Queen Anne's reign and do not think I am a direct descendant. However, Charles is a common forename in William's family but unusual for Oxfordshire for that time period.
