CAUDELL 1830 to 1900 Any

Notes: Surname variants in the records include Caudwell, Caudle, Cadle, Codle, Candell and Candle. Earliest known ancestor is William Henry (Henry) Caudwell (later Caudell) found in the 1841 census in Hollybush Row Oxford, born 1833 to 1834, apparently in Oxford. I am trying to find his parents. His mother could be Charlotte Caudwell, born 1816 to 1817, who lived in a nearby household in 1841 and gives her place of birth as Long Crendon, Bucks. William Henry's children were Amelia Frances, Henry John, Walter Richard and Kate Maria. The family lived in the poor area of St Thomas in Oxford. The children moved to London, Faringdon (Oxon) and South Africa. Kate Maria married an aristocrat, Algernon Hardolph Harcourt Vernon, who was a divinity student at Keble College, Oxford. Kate died in South Africa in 1883 shortly after giving birth to Janet Kate Harcourt Vernon.
