Notes: Martin GILES 1636-1730 married Elizabeth FENNIMORE in 1697 they had 8 known children in Bletchington. one son Martin 1699/00-1774 moved to Kidlington where he and 2nd wife Ann CAREY had three children. His son Martin 1740-1801 married Mary FAULKNER and moved to Hampton Gay they had 3 known children. Their son Martin 1767-1831 married Jane HADLAND they moved to Hampton Poyle they had 5 children. Their son Thomas 1791-1865 was the inn keeper of the Bell in Hampton Poyle. His son John served as Parish Clerk of Hampton Poyle for 25 years. His sons in law James ELLARD and Emmanuel EDMONDS also served as Parish Clerk. Emmanuel was the son of yet another Parish clerk Jerimiah EDMONDS. Joseph's daughter Mary took over the Bell and her son became landlord of the 6 Bells Kidlington. Her daughter Sarah married John GIBBS the landlord of the New Hinksey Inn. Thomas's nephew William's widow married John Young one of a family of butcher/publicans. He eventually took over at the Bell. His brother was at the Crown in Abingdon while brother Richard kept the Dog in Kidlington. Other family members are associated with The Butcher's Arms Headington, The Six Bells Kidlington, Three Pidgeons Kirtlington, The Anchor Kidlington, The Three Horseshoes Kidlington, and many others.
