Notes: I have been doing research for a Washington family in Dunedin, NZ, two of whom have taken the Ancestry.com DNA test which shows that their DNA matches a lineage who emigrated to NZ from Wotton Underwood, Bucks in 1874 on the Ship 'Peeress'. I have also been in touch with a researcher in Timaru NZ (Jan MacKinven) who is related on the same lineage. The lineage has been taken right back through the Bletchingdon / Kidlington/ Gosford Washingtons (c.1600-1750) to Thomas, a 6th son of Robert Washington of Sulgrave Manor, Northants and thence via his father, Lawrence 1500-84, back to Ravensworth, Yorks at the time of the Norman Conquest. I have already gathered info of historical interest on the military careers of the descent from Christopher Washington 1681-1736 which centres on Ludgershall and Wotton Underwood. I have too seen Richard Washington's will (probate 1670) and mention in the VCH of his connection with 'maintaining a school in Gosford'. His will also states that he wished to be interred in the St Mary Ch.,.Kidlington churchyard under the East window. If there is a stone or any other memorial to him there I would love a photo of same. Re Christopher I have seen the instructions to his widow, Ann to make a list of his chattels as Christopher made no will but if there is a record of the chattels that may also help throw some light on his life.
