Notes: My paternal line, SEARS, in Buckinghamshire at present was previously in Oxfordshire. At that time the spelling of the name was varied, including SEARES and SEERES. However this is probably not the same family as SEER . GRIMMETT is the name of paternal grandmother and, under many spellings, including GRIMMITT and GRIMMETTE, is now the subject of a registered one-name study. The GRIMMETTS came from Gloucs, spreading south via the drover's trails through Oxon to Bucks or north-east towards Birmingham, in search of work. All info and contacts much appreciated!

Notes: Interested in Frederick Middleton b1828, and his family; he was a college servant in Oxford. I have information on John and Mary Savory c1816 who witnessed the marriage of my 2xgt grandfather Richard Middleton and Elizabeth Osborne. John and Mary moved to London later. I hope somebody can help me with their families in Oxfordshire and move to London.

My Savory family from c1820 moved towards London from Croydon and mostly settled in the Walworth, Camberwell, Lambeth areas. A branch moved from Oxford to London and may be linked to the London families possibly in the late 1800s. A John and Mary Savory were witnesses to the marriage of Richard Middleton and Elizabeth in 1810 at Kidlington! A branch of the Middletons from Old Cutslow remained in Oxford and I would love to find any descendants. Henry Middleton married Martha Rowland in 1833 in Oxford. I would like to find more of her background; where she was born; parents; siblings.

STANLEY 1600-1900 Any OXF

Notes: After 40 years of research, I am pursuing a new lead on the 17th C. English origin of Mathew Stanley/Standley (1628?-1686). The first actual baptismal record for a Matthew Stanley, I’ve seen, with a birth date 02/11/1628, was in Thame, Oxfordshire. Thame is but a few miles (13) from the birthplace/homeplace of Mathew’s American patron and neighbor, Zaccheus Gould, in Great Missenden, in the Aylesbury vale of Buckinghamshire, bordering Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire. The Putnams of Topsfield are also from this part of Buckinghamshire, and related to the Goulds, as are the Weedens, the Griggs, the Farringtons, Coopers, Tituses, and others, who also came to America in the same decade as the Goulds. I now have the image of the Thame baptismal record of Matthew Stanley, son of Ham(or Hamme) Stanley and Elizabeth Hawkins, born? and married in the adjacent community of Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, in 1624. We have also found a baptismal record for Elizabeth Stanley/Standley, b. 1630, to Ham and Elisabeth Stanley, and another son, Wm./William, father Ham, in 1642, in Thame. There is a death record for Ham “Hamme” Stanley,in 1667, in Thame.

Notes: Researching from Australia, I am very reliant on online resources. Probably like other researchers, I have found lots of dead ends. Although not a common surname in Australia, Oxford seems to abound in Joys! I have been able to trace a direct line from 1720, but prior to that, the details are a bit vague. Added to the problem is that all the Joy families called their sons Thomas, William and/or John!
